Six amp characters—including the newly developed Pushed type—plus a selectable variation for each

So What is New With The Boss Katana Gen 3 Amps?

The moment you’ve been waiting for! The Gen 3 series introduces several groundbreaking features that set it apart from its predecessors. Here’s what you can expect:

1. New Amp Character: Pushed

One of the standout additions to the Katana Gen 3 is the new amp character called “Pushed.” This amp character pays homage to the iconic Vox AC30, delivering a chime-y, top boost, edge-of-breakup sound. This addition expands the sonic possibilities of the Katana series, capturing the essence of classic British tone with remarkable authenticity. With this addition, the Katana Gen 3 series now boasts a total of 12 distinct amp characters (previously only 5 amp characters plus another 5 via the “Variation” feature), offering an even wider palette of tones for players to explore.

2. Wireless Expansion

Say goodbye to tangled cables with the new wireless expansion feature. The Katana Gen 3 series allows for wireless audio playback from devices such as laptops and phones. You can also enjoy remote sound editing via an iOS or Android app, just like the latest Boss Katana Go, a feature previously limited to Mac or Windows software through Boss Tone Studio. (Bluetooth receiver sold separately.)

3. Shape Your EQ More with the “Contour” Button

Building on a popular feature first introduced with the Boss Katana Bass, the Gen 3 amps now include a Contour button in the EQ section on the amp panel. This feature empowers players to sculpt their sound with precision and ease, enhancing versatility and adaptability to different playing environments.

4. Make Your Leads More Prominent with the “Solo” Button

Exclusive to the 100-watt and 212 models, the Solo button acts as a mid-boost tailored for soloing, ensuring that guitarists can cut through the mix with clarity and presence. This intuitive feature enhances articulation and definition, allowing for dynamic performances that captivate audiences.

New features includes: Three-way Contour for shaping the overall tonal color, Stereo Expand function to link with a second Katana amp, Stereo headphones jack, line output, and USB output with IR-based cabinet sound and Record and play tracks in music production software on a computer or mobile device* via a USB-C®

5. Cab Resonance Options Available on The Amp Panel

Available on the 100-watt and 212 models now come with selectable cab resonance options: Vintage, Modern, and Deep. This feature allows you to tailor the response of the amplifier to match your playing style and genre, whether you prefer a looser feel vintage warmth, tight modern punch, or deep low-end response.

6. Stereo Headphone Out

Responding to increased demand from players, the addition of a stereo headphone out represents a significant upgrade from previous mono configurations. This welcoming upgrade feature ensures a more immersive and satisfying private listening experience, catering to the needs of practicing musicians and late-night sessions.

7. USB-C Connectivity

The introduction of USB-C for tone editing and audio recording is another significant upgrade. This allows for seamless integration with the Boss Tone Studio software and enables direct recording to your DAW, making it easier than ever to capture your ideas and performances with professional quality.

8. Performance Versatility

The Gen 3 amps are designed with versatility in mind. They feature a power amp input for amp/effect processors and selectable IR (Impulse Response) options for USB and Line Out. This makes them incredibly flexible for various performance and recording scenarios.

The amp lines in the new Katana Gen 3 series include: Katana 50, Katana 50 EX, Katana 100, Katana 100/212, Katana Head, Katana Artist and Katana Artist Head

The Boss Katana Gen 3 series represents a significant leap forward in the evolution of guitar amplifiers. In our opinion, with its new amp characters, wireless capabilities, and host of performance-enhancing features, it’s clear that Boss has listened to the needs of modern guitarists and delivered an amplifier that’s ready for any stage, studio, or practice room.
