I know people tend to compare this microphone with the Shure SM57 but my intentions are recording demos at home just for fun, I am not looking to recreate The Black Album in my humble home studio. Once you have your purpose clear as I do you stop comparing this with the SM57 and you start to appreciate this and you realize how good it actually is on its own and for a great price for home recordings.

Behringer mics sound better than they have any right to for their price range. I like this one fine. It is not as sweet to my ears as the SM58 clone, the XM8500, but it sounds fine to me, and certainly doesn't present any barriers that a little EQ tweaking or slight compression can't remedy.

My only beef is physical design and cosmetic quality assurance. The cap does not screw off as it does in the Shure original. Rather it is glued on, and not terribly well at times. This recent one had the cap well stuck on, but slightly askew, and I worry efforts to straighten will bugger the wiring if I am too rough. I have decided in any case to order another so I can run a stereo pair, and if the cosmetics on that one are off I will report back. The build quality of my other Behringer mics is much better.

In any case, it is a decent sound SM58 copy for cheap. Totally suitable for all but the most exacting work.
